How to Support your Pets with Firework Season
Firework season can be a distressing time of the year for pets. With the ability to hear sounds up to 60,000 Hz, a figure three times higher in sound sensitivity than humans, their hearing can often lead to much distress and anxiety during our Festive Firework and Bonfire Nights.
Creating a calm and safe environment can really help to aid stress levels and fear that surrounds this time of year. Trembling, hiding, panting, excessively grooming, drooling or barking are all signs to look out for in distressed and anxious pets.
We thought we’d put together a few key pieces of useful information to know how to best support your pets this season, however if you are seriously concerned for the welfare of your pet, please call your vet immediately.
- Cue Roberts
To mask and muffle the bangs, close curtains, windows and doors, connect to your Roberts and turn up Classic FM or Bluetooth stream our Soothing Sounds for Pets over on Spotify. We’ve curated our very own Spotify playlist for you this season to point you in the right direction to relax your pet and provide 24/7 listening to keep them calm.
2. Create a Safe Space
An excuse to create a den? We need no further persuading. Building a den in your pet’s favourite spot can really support a feeling of safety. The cosier, quieter, darker and more soundproof, the better, so layer up the blankets and bedding. Give them space and time to rest quietly and undisturbed.
3. Stay Tuned
If you can stay home in the evenings, this will really help to provide your pets the reassurance they may need and come to you for. Dogs and cats can run when spooked, so ensure all exits are secure and microchips are up to date, and also consider providing fun distractions. Stay home and tune into what your pet may need.
